Los Pirineos is located at the top of the Tecapa volcano in southeastern El Salvador, and is named after the Pyrenees mountain range that separates France and Spain. The farm is owned by Gilberto Baraona and has been in his family for over 120 years.

Gilberto is a true coffee pioneer in El Salvador. He has won the national Cup of Excellence competition eight times and has the largest coffee seed bank in private hands in the country. He is constantly testing and exploring new options for unique cup character in his coffees. More than ten new experimental varietals of coffee plants have been planted at the farm recently, including Orange Pacamara, Geisha and Bourbon Laurina, and these will start producing coffee cherries from 2017.

This microlot (LP71) is a great example of Salvadoran coffee, with sweet nutty praline and milk chocolate notes, a clean and well-structured mouthfeel and a juicy plum-like acidity accentuated by Gilberto’s careful processing techniques.
