We're back at the roastery after a great few days away in Dublin for World of Coffee 2016. The event gathered together coffee farmers, importers, roasters, equipment manufacturers and baristas from all around the world, as well as hosting the World Barista Championship and the World Brewers Cup - congratulations to the winners Berg Wu from Taiwan and Tetsu Kasuya from Japan! The Nordic coffee scene was strongly represented in the competitions, with participants including Tumi Ferrer from Te og Kaffi in Reykjavik, Anne Lunell from Koppi in Helsingborg, Steve Moloney from Love Coffee Roasters in Lund, Mikaela Wallgren from the Coffee Collective in Copenhagen and Odd Steinar Tollefsen from Supreme Roastworks in Oslo.
It was also a good chance for us to catch up with our green coffee partners around Europe who we work with regularly but don't get to see in person too often, to meet producers from different coffee growing regions and to taste lots of coffees from farms and roasters around the world. We also really enjoyed exploring some great coffee shops around the city like Love Supreme, Proper Order Coffee Co., Network, 3FE and Cloud Picker. Over the past five years or so, Dublin has seen a huge increase in speciality coffee shops and local roasteries so it was good to take a walk around, see some of the city and talk to baristas and coffee shop owners to get their take on what's currently going on. Highly recommended if you're ever in need of a coffee-themed city break!
