Omnom is a small batch artisan chocolate maker based in Reykjavik. Co-founder Kjartan Gislason worked as a chef across Europe for nearly two decades before discovering the bean-to-bar chocolate movement that was emerging in the USA. As a chef, Kjartan was already familiar with single estate chocolate produced by French chocolatiers Valhrona, but he was amazed when he saw the flavours and textures that could be achieved when working on a small scale and so he started experimenting. He teamed up with his childhood friend Oskar and they started sourcing the finest cacao beans from South America, Papua New Guinea and Madagascar. In a short space of time, they set up a small production lab inside a converted petrol station in Reykjavik and have since moved to a larger production space just along the road.
Omnom's mission is to make the best chocolate possible using the best cacao beans available, with flavour pairings very much inspired by their native Iceland. Their combination of chocolate and lakkrís (Icelandic for liquorice) is a local bestseller and their milk chocolate has distinctive notes of the fermented milk commonly found in Iceland. Their Coffee + Milk bar is a collaboration with Reykjavik Roasters, who roast their coffee beans inside a small coffee shop nearby.
